I believe its mostly panic, the loot scaling means there's less money coming into the economy so people have either sold whilst they could to get price, or they actually needed the money and had to sell instead of just hoarde.
Also since rare materials and dyes arn't affected by scaling they're the only things that can still be farmed |

Could it not be a similar reason to when there was the free FoW and UW weekend?
Because anyone could go to FoW (your area didn't need favour) the prices went down as people that don't usually get favour often were buying up ecto so they could get their FoW armour. Now, with the addition of Scrolls to access the FoW if you don't have favour it could be a similar thing happening. |

With the HM update Anet introduced the loot scaling. After massive amouns of crying and whining by the babies of Guild Wars, Anet removed the scaling from rare materials, rare items, greens, and a few other items. They also removed the farming flags so soloers can farm all day with no consequences at all anymore. With the dumbing down of Noob Mode, farming is even more simple than ever before. Prices should drop even further.

Yep. But lets face it. "You want armor made of what? euwww!!!" Quote from a GW 2 Armorer NPC. lol
Stuff like this is not moving forward. I expect a lot of things to drop in price once they are found to be irrelevant. Which they always were to begin with. but you guys know my opinion on that, I don't want to enrage the farmer community with more of that rant from me. that's not the point. I just really Wish Anet would not make it out to new people that everyone has to have this or that ... no one NEEDS anything major expensive in this game to play it well. indeed MOST of the most valuable items in the game you can get for free just from playing. Prime example" the oft overprice -50 health offhand... hardly no one realizes this item is a free quest reward, available to all Prophecies characters in ascalon. yet people sell them for as much as 80k at times because of its farming potential. See what I mean? Its just exploitation of the ignorant. Now I'm not saying its not a valid tradable item, but common, its attainable within about 2 hours of gameplay time if you rush to it, which many people do Just so they can sell them off... Make that kind of thing a 1 time per account reward, OR customized it for THAT character, and you solve that kind of exploitation... As it is now its just rinse repeat sell off for bookoo gold and repeat again. Here is a thought. Make truly rare items only for the finders... by making it customized for their account. This is something I suspect will happen in GW 2. As it was something they had trouble recoding the existing engine to do. (customization for account not character) Thus reducing the Trading market significantly. If done, that alone will make GW 2 a better community game right out of the box. It may not sell as fast because the marketeers will not want to buy it, but so be it IMHO. I don't communicate with that type anyway. so it would definitely be no skin off the teeth of players that just want to play a game and enjoy the process of communicating with others while in game. Something nearly impossible to do as it is now, because 90% of the time you have no room for friends lists when the ignore list is packed solid. and all chat is flooded with incoherent and useless spam for hours and hours at a time. If not non stop. Last edited by =HT=Ingram; Apr 29, 2007 at 11:53 AM // 11:53.. |

I wonder if there's a problem with the loot scaling system that's causing more of the unscaled things to drop. The reason I'm wondering is that on Friday I was out cupcake farming and I got 3 black dyes within the space of an hour (2 of them in less than 5 minutes!). It may have been a fluke, I dunno. But it sure made my day!
I think Raaaa has a good point. There are people panicing about the prices of ectos, etc. dropping and selling it off as quickly as possible. The more they sell off, the lower the price will go. |

I don't want to troll here. No, there is no need to liquidate unless you are hording the items as a tangible form of gold. Ecto was about the only item on your list even worth using as a gold substitute. The ecto price has its ups and downs, but I think people are just panicking and the ecto market will correct itself. In a game, where you play for virtual rewards, you NEED more expensive armor, you NEED more expensive weapons, you NEED more titles, you NEED higher /age count, you NEED high rank, and so on. This is the only purpose of MMORPGs. To outgrind the others. You also don't NEED to play GW, don't NEED internet, don't NEED a job, don't NEED WoW or anything else. But in the context of each, you NEED these things. You also don't NEED highest score in tetris. But why play then? For the incredible immersion? Why play GW if not to equip the characters? For the pathetic storyline there is? It's funny once, but that's 20 hours of gameplay. If you're in that rank, forget about judging GW. MMOs target audience that is for the long haul - 6 months gameplay minimum, 1000 hours plus. The only thing that counts is what those people NEED. And those NEED expensive items and long grind. GW and skill over time is long gone and long dead. Grind is the name of the game now. The longer you grind, the more you have, the stronger you are. |

Its no secret I have never liked the trading system. I believe play and in the process of playing rewards will come to you. If you like the hell of trying to use the spam to market well more power too you. but its a fact that the in game communication system has been ABUSED in this way almost since the day it was first used. Anet themselves are frustrated with this. As the game becomes very hard to communicate with others in towns. and my ignore list is huge trying to filter out all the spam. I mean unbelievably huge... If people used the trade channel it would not be as bad but the chief reason people say they spam is cause most turn the trade channel off... Isn't this a clue to them? Most people WANT to be able to chat in the game and get PUGs on occasion. But because of the POS Spam in the game it becomes almost impossible to meet new people and play the game.
And when I say NEED, its just this. You don't NEED any 100K item to play the game well. You can do exactly the same thing with the same stats with a free or craftable item. Same is true of armor. 1.5, 15, or FoW armor. It really does not matter what skin it is. Its all the same class. So you can get by with the cheap stuff until you EARN enough to get more expensive skins. Naturally the more expensive skins are now attained in mins with all the Gold resellers. Which I get a kick out of getting banned from the game every few weeks. Especially those that advertise on these Fan forums. A few screen shots of their illegal activity and a post to support, and bye bye IGX and Virgoods accounts by the dozens... So when I say you don't NEED it well it's just that, you don't NEED it to accomplish anything worthwhile, and are fully able to EARN the more desirable skin instead of being coerced into cheating to get it before even trying. And as far as the -50 item, well that shows you how often I look at trade markets. That 80k price was the high back before factions came out when some dork spread a rumor that it was not going to be attainable through the quest anymore and flooded the market with them for a high price. Well unfortunately he sold off his inventory and make tons for the reseller industry by using misinformation. That simple act was the last draw for me, I made it my lot in life to do everything I could to make sure people knew its not Necessary to buy gold from these scum. Just play the game and the rewards come. And that has proven to be true ever since I turned off trade for good. So yea I may only have around 30k at any one time, but I never want for anything either... so thats the moral here... |

IN response to your question as so many people have avoided, the answer is simple.
Asian (and other countries, singling out the obvious here) bot farmers horde ecto when they run out of space for all of the gold their bots farmed. They would buy ecto from people and from the trader, to collect more and more gold. With the addition of the patch, bot farmers that farmed gold can no longer maintain the amount of income they once had with their bots and are having to sell their ecto to the merchant to meet gold requests (ebay and other gold buying sites) of players that buy their gold for real money. When you have amounts of 200-1000 ecto, you can't stand in town forever trying to sell to players when there are so many buyers, so you sell to the merchant. Another thing bringing down the cost of ectos and other materials is the ability to farm in normal mode like the old ways. Enemies still run away right before they die, but it's nothing like it was before. You can farm all of the old areas, like trolls, 55/ss in underworld, and other places. This is inflating the market with more and more ecto because old methods are still possible. I expect prices to continue to fall until the demand either rises (regular materials, rare materials, and dyes always go up with new campaign/expansion releases because of new armor and renewed interest of players), or the market steadies. Ecto will probably continue to drop lower, because the demand isn't what it used to be. Expect the market to stable out in 1-2 months, but until then the prices will continue to fluctuate heavily. |

This can't be correct.
Hmm, that can't be true. It is extremely easy to get rid of spamming. ANet just doesnt care at this point. Sit someone in front of the computer. Copy every message from whatever channel they like, to their screen. It is that simple. From there, it's as simple as click on name, and ban.
I guess they do not have enough money to properly monitor the game. It's unfortunate, but it seems to be true. |

Spam isn't that big of a deal as you're all making it out to be. Not only is it off topic, but everyone knows that district 1 of main cities its the trade channel. If you want to avoid the spam, join a less conspicuous district.

Because they removed the anti-farming code therefore farmers farm for longer and get more ectos than ever before.
